Millennials.
Since 2008, Millennials have had it rough. Whether it's a financial, political, or climate crisis, your experience hasn’t been like other generations before you. You have probably had to skip out on major life milestones due to a higher cost of living, higher student loan debt, uncertain political and environmental climates, or perhaps you just don’t want to do the same things that other generations have done before you.
Then add living in a female body to the formula. Perhaps you want to do things differently and push the envelope of what women can do with their careers. However once you get there imposter syndrome sets in, you feel like you don’t belong and anxiety sets in. You fight against patriarchal systems that keep qualified women from breaking the glass ceiling. Heck, you think there shouldn’t even be a glass ceiling!
You may be struggling with relationships, whether with a partner or with family. You want to have it all. However, ‘having it all’ doesn’t seem to be working out the way it was promised. In fact, you feel lonely and struggle to make connections with other people.
To add to the mix, you then are told that your body should look a certain way. You see tik-tok videos and instagram stories that show you how you are ‘supposed’ to look. You might have engaged in some dieting, weeks of intense exercise routines, bought grocery carts full of so called ‘healthy’ foods that don’t really seem to fill you up. You get hungry a few minutes later and go back to the ice cream pint in the freezer. You then feel guilty about it because it’s something you aren’t ‘supposed’ to be eating in order to have a desirable body. After doing all of these things, you thought your self esteem would be the bomb. However, it’s not what was promised and you still don’t feel confident in your body.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. There are so many other millennial female-identifying folks who feel the same way. As hard as it is, it’s okay to reach out to have a place for you to be well...you.
